Textiles

Driven by process, Renée’s textile and fiber practice includes natural dye and weaving. These slow and intentional crafts de-prioritize a disposable lifestyle and encourage reuse. The action of weaving weft through warp is an intentional participation in a slow life that is in closer harmony with nature’s slow and resilient rhythms. Intentional weaving such as this gives an opportunity to meditate on the crafting process and what materiality means in a world of mass production.

Most recently she has been teaching workshops on natural dyeing with food scraps. Through these workshops participants are welcomed to investigate the food waste cycle through color, texture and community engagement. Even though there are general scientific guidelines that will help you achieve colors within certain hues, she leans into experimentation and learning from the materials.
